Description
Watercolor drawing on paper of three fungi in shades of brown and beige accompanied on right side of page by several pencilled lines of text: the three specimens are pestle-shaped with globose caps; all executed in brown, indicating their mature age; lines in dark brown indicate wrinkling where the head meets the stout stalk; the specimen furthest to left measures 5 3/4 inches in height and has a slightly knobbed cap; the specimen in center measures 3 1/2 inches in height with an irregularly shaped globose cap; and the specimen on right measures 2 1/8 inches in height; strokes of brown indicate earth; text is as follows,"Growing among leaf mold on river bank- / under black Alders- / Spores, round, dark brown.- / Aug 29 1900. Litchfield Conn. / Calvatia elata / mature stage".
