Annandale Abuzz!
1867 Beers Atlas of Dutchess County, adapted
Annandale Abuzz, an online exhibit by Jonian Rafti ’15, explores the economic history of Annandale from colonial times to the late nineteenth century, with a focus on years 1860-1870. Today’s quiet Annandale is juxtaposed with an industrious Annandale from the past. Through the use of historic maps, census data, newspaper clippings, computer generated graphics, and interpretive materials, the exhibit reconstructs village life during the focal ten year timespan. This decade is the period of the Civil War, the founding of St. Stephens College, and arguably Annandale’s most thriving industrial years.
