Description

Watercolor drawing on paper of two fungi in shades of beige and white, accompanied by column of text, in pencil, on right side of page: specimen to right is 1 15/16 inches in height; the white convex cap has partially visible gills; the slender S-curved stalk is white, shaded with beige on edges and base; specimen to left measures 3 3/4 inches in height; cap is white with patches of beige; gills are visible; gently curved stalk is predominantly beige- darker at base; taxonomy to right is as follows: "1. Pileus globose, becoming expanded, or / plane, pure white becoming tinged with / yellow with age or in drying- very glutenous / margin thin inrolled entire, no trace / of veil seen- odorless- / 2. Lamellae white, arcuate somewhat / decurrent, inserted close, but not / crowded- without interlacing, or / thickened veins / 3. Spores white / 4. Stipe concolorous, floccose above, and / having jelly like drops at apex, viscid / or glutenous at the base, tapering / below, stuffed becoming hollow. / Singly and in group of 2 and 3; in damp / woods, under hemlocks / M.P. Annandale N.Y. Sept 2, 1922 / -5- / Hygrophorus mugnanis".
