Watercolor drawing on paper of two fungi in shades of gold, yellow, and brown, accompanied by column of text, in pencil, to right of page: the larger specimen to the right measures 4 1/2 inches in height, including the "log" on which it is anchored, and 3 1/2 inches across cap; the broad bell-shaped to convex cap is gold with highly visible gills beneath; the stalk curves to the right and is bulbous at the base; a frilly "skirt" rings the stalk 1/2 inch beneath the cap; brown striations give texture to the yellow and beige stalk; smaller specimen to the left measures 1 5/8 inches in height and has a yellow convex cap with barely visible gill area; stalk curves to the left and is bulbous at the base.

1. Pileus convex to expanded sub-umbonate / context thick in the center yellowish taste / strong bitter, surface dry minutely pubescent / margin thin at first involute, odor / strong. / 2. Lamellae adnate, notched, decurrent / by a tooth broad, emarginate inserted / pale yellow, becoming darker, close but not / crowded- / 3. Spores ferrugenous [sic] / 4. Stipe concolorous, paler above / the annulus, darker yellow below / apex mealy, base enlarged + / reticulate [sic] with dark brown lines. / yellow within in some cases hollow. / Growing gregarious on rotten log in / woods. / Annulus thick felty, ferrugenous [sic] / above & marked by the pressure of the / lamellae- / Pholiota. / M.P. / Annandale N.Y.
