The Improbable Empire

The Improbable Empire made up of George Murer ('97) and Evan Stiles ('99) had a split performance/studio aesthetic. Where studio creations largely depended on the music department's twin tower serge modular synthesizer, which couldn't be taken off site (not even disguised as a baby in a perambulator), live performances mainly consisted of sampled apocalyptic sermons, spacephone-treated flute toodling, random operations on a 46,000 mega Hz shortwave radio, and readings from staff notebooks recovered from an abandoned mental institution.
