1950s Bands

Bard in the 1950s was coming to grip with the post-war world where jazz was king on campuses across the country. Here at Bard, the incomparable Skip Strong's Steamboat Six played dances and hops providing a soundtrack for the new age. This decade also saw the founding of the Bard Jazz Festival, which in 1959 featured key players like Jeanne Lee ('60) and Guy Ducornet. Bard's jazz enclave flourished during this decade driving the direction of musical pursuits on campus for years to come.
